Start with a complete project
Ask your coding assistant for the entry file, dependency manifest, supported runtime version, startup instructions and a list of required environment variable names. Request a small example command and an explanation of how to test it. Keep actual credentials out of the conversation.
For JavaScript, collect package.json, the lockfile and every local module imported by the entry script. For Python, collect requirements.txt, the entry file and any cogs or modules. For JDA, keep the build files and a runnable jar or a supported build-on-start project. A code block without the matching dependencies is not a complete deployment.
Check whether the project stores data locally, expects a database, downloads large files or calls external APIs. Read unfamiliar dependencies and commands before running them. Ask the assistant to explain file deletion, shell execution and permission requests; generated code still needs review.
Choose hosting for the process you have
discordbothost Free provides 256 MB RAM and 1 GB disk for one bot. Public GitHub deployment is included, and the bot does not sleep merely because it is quiet. Free goes offline after 7 days until renewed. Starter starts at $0.99 a month with 512 MB and skips weekly renewal while the subscription is current. Private repository credentials require a paid plan.
Those limits can fit a small bot; they are not a promise that every generated project fits. A local language model, browser automation or a large media-processing dependency may need substantially more resources. Measure using the RAM guide and check all plan limits.
A VPS may fit better if you need root access or a custom system setup and can maintain it. A general application platform can also work with the appropriate service type. For example, Replit documents Reserved VM deployments for bots that stay connected. Compare the process model, storage and cost instead of assuming every web-hosting plan supports a persistent bot.
Deploy the project on discordbothost
- Create your Discord application and configure its bot permissions and required intents. Sign in to discordbothost, check Free eligibility or choose a paid plan, and create a server from the matching template.
- Upload the project using the file manager or SFTP, or connect a public GitHub repository and branch. Leave out node_modules and Python virtual environments. Keep secrets outside the repository.
- Set the entry file and dependencies using the discord.js, discord.py or JDA deployment instructions. The Node and Python templates use Main file; do not paste a whole shell command into that field.
- Set Bot token as BOT_TOKEN privately. Make the code read that variable, and configure any other required secrets separately. Stop your local copy before starting the hosted process.
- Start the bot and check the console. Test the example command in a test server, verify any saved data and watch memory usage. A running process alone does not show that permissions, commands and integrations work.
Once the hosted process works, your computer can be switched off. Bots restart automatically after a crash. Repeated crashes pause restarts; check the console before starting again. Check the operating checklist for recovery and renewal behavior.
If the bot itself uses an AI API
Code written with AI and a bot that calls AI are different resource requirements. A bot that sends messages to an external model needs separate API access and may incur usage charges from that provider. Check that provider's API access, billing and rate limits before putting the bot in a busy server.
Set spending controls where the provider supports them, limit who can invoke the bot and handle API errors without endless retries. Keep conversation data and user permissions in mind before forwarding Discord messages. Hosting fees and third-party API usage are separate.
What to send back when something fails
Share the first relevant error, runtime version, entry filename and dependency manifest with secrets removed. Explain what you expected and what happened. For authentication failures, use token troubleshooting; for missing imports, use the dependency guide. Do not repeatedly regenerate the whole project before understanding the first error.
This guide is published by discordbothost. The workflow uses our documented deployment steps; it does not imply endorsement or a partnership with the AI products named. For repository setup and signed push webhooks, continue with deploying from GitHub.
Questions
Where can I host a Discord bot built with ChatGPT or Claude?
Use a host that supports the generated project runtime and a persistent bot process. discordbothost is an option for a small discord.js, discord.py or JDA project, with Free public GitHub deployment and no idle sleep. Check memory, dependency and renewal requirements before choosing.
Does my bot need ChatGPT or Claude to stay open?
A generated bot can run independently once its files and dependencies are deployed. If the bot itself calls an AI API, that service still needs its own credentials, access and budget. Hosting does not include third-party AI API usage.
Can I host an AI-generated Discord bot for free?
If it fits the host limits and eligibility rules. discordbothost Free provides 256 MB RAM and 1 GB disk with renewal every 7 days. Large dependencies, local models and growing data can exceed those limits; external AI API charges are separate.
Should I paste my Discord token into an AI chat?
Use your hosting dashboard or a protected secret-entry workflow to configure credentials. Share variable names and redacted errors in chat. If a real token appears in a public repository or exposed transcript, reset it in the Discord Developer Portal.
